The subway car was completely empty and these two relaxed into the comfort of the moment... 

Yeah... Wonderful.

They knew their place in the world and celebrated it, publicly, defiantly, unapologetically.

As the train filled with people at Times Square, they realized they needed to sit up... behave a bit better. Yes, it was Pride Sunday.When the car was very full, their PDA seemed to go unnoticed. But I knew better: All those around them knew and got the message. Their message.

I knew, too. And when we arrived at the last stop in Flushing, I gave them 2 stickers I still had from marching in the Pride parade. "God Made Me Queer."

"I had a very impactful experience of loss recently during my travels in Portugal, with the events that unfolded leaving an indelible mark on me.

Is loss always a bad thing? It depends on how we choose to view it, I think.

Perhaps there are reasons unknown to us why we had to experience that loss, and lessons to be learned from it.

I was blown away by what this particular series of events showed me.

What started as a horrible incident culminated in a completely different outlook on the world.
