Social Justice
MCCNY is proud of New York State and the passage of the Marriage Equality Act. The passage of the bill marks another watershed accomplishment on the long road to full equality under the law for our nation’s LGBT residents. Before the passage of the bill, less than 5% of the U.S. population lived in states that treated all couples equally under the marriage laws. Thanks to marriage equality in NYS, that figured more than doubled to 11%.
Metropolitan Community Church of New York, like MCCs around the globe, has a bold vision of social justice that seeks to transform hearts, lives, and history. We are called to “Do justice, show kindness, and live humbly with God,” (Micah 6:8). For us, working for social justice in the world is central to our community of faith. We are an international movement of Christian Churches, reaching in and beyond the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, and heterosexual communities, that has preached a three-pronged Gospel of salvation, community and social justice for 40 years.
MCCNY is also engaged in the global struggle for basic human rights and social justice for LGBT people throughout the world. While our vision is global, our action is often local. Here in New York, it is common to see people from MCCNY on the front lines of protests against police brutality and war.
Finally, we at MCCNY use our resources to work in partnership with other progressive communities, both secular and religious, to speak out against all voices that seek to demonize homosexuality and are opposed to equal rights and full equality for LGBT people
Please join us at MCCNY, and get involved in changing your world!
