Karen Stevenson
I started painting about 4 years ago shortly after my partner and I adopted a Pitbull named Nora. Nora inspires me everyday — not just to paint, but to be a more loving, compassionate and playful person. She is our first Pitbull, and we will forever be advocates — and hopefully guardians — of these goofy, comical, snuggly creatures that continue to be the most abused breed in existence. Nora is featured in these paintings along with Henry, who joined our family at 3-weeks-old and has grown into a furniture-shoe-chicken-bone-chewing-Pitbull-nutjob-runt that gets us up at 5am no matter what time we go to bed. He adores Nora, too. I love to work with canvases I’ve found on the street…embracing the challenges of working around abandoned ideas and realizing second chances. I work at Lincoln Center and live in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.
