WELCOME HOME to Metropolitan Community Church of New York!

In 1972, a young man named Howard Wells came to New York City with nothing more than a call from God to preach Good News to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the the three-prong vision of MCC's founder, the Rev. Troy Perry:

  • salvation
  • liberation
  • social action

Howard went on to become the first openly queer student at Union Theological Seminary and an ordained minister in Metropolitan Community Churches. He rented space at Holy Apostles Church on 9th Avenue in Manhattan and began preaching. People from all walks of life came to hear the message of Good News for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendere people and the church grew.

In 2007, we are celebrating the journey of 35 years as a congregation. Today, MCCNY owns its own building at 446 West 36th Street in Manhattan and has an active congretation of 437. In addition, MCCNY supports a number of ministries to the poor, hungry and homless, including the Sylvia Rivera Food Pantry which serves some 5,000 men, women and children each month and Homeless Youth Services. MCCNY employs a pastoral staff of six, a musical staff of three. The vibrant life at MCCNY would not be possible without the hard work of a many, many volunteers who provide the larger community of faith with a range of activities and services such as groceries for people living with HIV/AIDS, companionship for the elderly, religious education classes for adults and children, individual spiritual guidance, short-term counseling, identity and support groups, and retreats.

Come join us at MCCNY to learn more about how God's love liberates lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgender people!

ALL are welcome in MCC... MCCNY is one of hundreds of MCC churches worldwide
as part of the Metropolitan Community Churches (www.mccchurch.org).
